All efforts were fulfilled to publish the Turkish Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery in 1994. The first issue of the journal was published in March 1995. The journal was published every six months in 1995 and 1996, but due to great interest the journal is published every three months and four issues per year (January, April, July and October) between 1997 and 2009. By the beginning of 2009, the journal is being published six issues per year (January, March, May, July, September and November). In the beginning the journal was the official publication organ of the Istanbul Medical School, Trauma & Emergency Surgery Unit Association, and after 1997 it became the official publication of the Turkish Association of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (TATES). In the beginning 2,000 copies of the journal were published, and following 1997 this number reached 3,000 copies.
